With vital contributions from multilingual dental student volunteers across Canada, the FCDSA Advocacy Committee has developed this Language Toolkit that Canadian dental students can use to translate some dentally-relevant phrases and questions for patients who don't speak English/French to help reduce the language barrier. In 2019, Statistics Canada reported that 800 000 Canadians cannot hold a conversation in French or English; that's 800 000 individuals who deserve accessible and autonomous dental care! We hope that the toolkit helps dental students in the delivery of timely and appropriate care to patients at dental school clinics across Canada. The toolkit will be continuously updated as new languages and phrases are contributed by volunteers over time.
