Surgical Skills: Setting Yourself Up for Clinical Success - Dr. Sam Malkinson
Saturday, January 11th - 14:00 - 17:00
Ridge preservation after tooth extraction is crucial for maintaining bone structure and laying the groundwork for future restorative work. This procedure involves filling the socket left by the extracted tooth with bone graft material to encourage bone growth.
Participants will begin with a brief lecture covering the rationale behind ridge preservation, followed by case presentations showcasing real-world results. The course will feature a hands-on component where participants will perform two ridge preservation procedures on provided models—first representing a simple clinical situation, and then progressing to a more complex scenario. This will facilitate the application of knowledge and skills using current materials and techniques.
Course Learning Objectives:
Explain changes in the alveolar ridge: Understand the physiological changes that occur following dental extractions.
Recognize common materials and techniques: Familiarize yourself with the materials and techniques used to preserve the alveolar ridge.
Formulate expectations for outcomes: Learn how procedure results impact subsequent implant placement.
Apply theoretical knowledge practically: Execute ridge preservation procedures on models to reinforce your theoretical understanding.
Materials provided: All necessary supplies and models will be provided for hands-on practice.
